The Claim Process

The SunStar Advantage Myths

MY INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T COVER A LOSS IF I'M AT FAULT.
Accidents happen! That's why you have insurance. Don't ever be afraid to call your insurance company when a loss occurs, no matter who's at fault.
MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL DROP ME IF I FILE A CLAIM.
The state's Department of Insurance strictly prohibits this type of action by your insurance company. They will continue to always have the right to choose not to renew you after the duration of your policy; however, filing a claim is not a legitimate or legal reason for non-renewal on the part of the insurance company.
IF I FILE A CLAIM MY RATES WILL GO UP.
Again, the Department of Insurance prohibits your insurance company from raising your rates merely because you file a claim. Don't let this fear hinder you from claiming what's rightfully yours.
MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL RAISE MY RATES IF I HIRE A PUBLIC ADJUSTER.
Some insurance companies and their adjusters may not be thrilled when they're informed that a public adjuster will be working a loss. However, our industries do in fact work together to settle your claim at the fairest amount. The adjusters at SunStar have established long-term, professional relationships with many of your insurance companies adjusters and the insurance companies themselves. This cordial working environment helps the claims process move smoother, more efficiently and always to your advantage.
WHEN MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENDS ME A CHECK, I CAN'T COLLECT ANY MORE MONEY FOR MY CLAIM.
You are entitled to collect the full amount you are owed. Unless you sign a release form, protecting your insurance company from having to pay out any more funds on your claim, a SunStar adjuster can reopen your claim and file supplemental on your behalf.

MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL DROP ME IF I HIRE A PUBLIC ADJUSTER.
The truth of the matter is that public adjusters are licensed by the State to work for the public. As the state acknowledges our industry as an advocate for the general public they have also placed rules and regulations to protect you and the public insurance adjusting industry. Your insurance company is unable to take any negative actions against you when you utilize the services of a public adjuster.
MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL TREAT ME DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE THIS IS MY FIRST TIME FILING A CLAIM.
Many property owners filing their first insurance claim are under the impression that the insurance company will treat them differently because they've never filed a claim before. Whether or not you've filed one claim or six claims, your insurance company will treat a loss no differently.
ALL PUBLIC ADJUSTERS ARE THE SAME. I DON'T NEED TO RESEARCH THE COMPANIES BEFORE I MAKE MY SELECTION.
Always know who you're hiring to work for you! With insurance claims, not only do you need to be aware of what you will owe your public adjuster in the end but when you hire a public adjuster that may be unable to handle your loss, you are jeopardizing your settlement amount.
BROKEN PIPES ARE NOT COVERED.
This statement is true IN PART. A broken pipe is not covered by your insurance policy, however, all of the ensuing damage is. Any water extraction, the repair of tiles or other flooring, cabinetry, paint,  mold rememdiation, etc. is all covered by your policy
